FRUIT BODY: Up to 7cm tall. A tongue-like growth similar to many species with microscopy an essential procedure to fully identify. The outer surface is minutely hairy, grooved and brown to dark-brown in colour. GILLS/PORES: N/A. FLESH: Firm and pale brown throughout becoming blacker towards the apex. SPORES: Brown, 0 to 13 septate, long rod-like and tapered at each end. HABITAT: Solitary or in small groups within mossy areas. SEASON: Frequent. Autumn. EDIBILITY: Inedible.
